Death’s Embrace

Shamanistic ritual show with aerial hoop and drums (duration 10mins)

On the border between the dark land and the spirits, death is playing its tunes. A hoop covered  in black veil forms a portal for the soul as four earthy creatures gather to perform  their rhythmic rituals around it.

”Death’s embrace” is a pagan, deeply embodied work about death as a transition – not an end, but another state. A shamanistic soundscape, rhythmic movement and symbols from the spirit world create a sacred space where the living and the dead breathe together for a moment.

Gate of the Witches

Ritualistic aerial hoop performance

The  black witches gather in the night to open a gate to the invisible. Through their dance, they summon a force that elevates one of them into the air forming bridge between two worlds. The performance combines the physical magic of the aerial hoop with the earthy depth of ritual dance.

Flying shapes, hypnotic rhythm and the elements of transformation take the viewer to  a space between darkness and light, the body and the spirit.

Saana Leppänen

Circus artist Saana Leppänen performs a hair suspension. The performance is a combination of suspension and dance being both bold and distorted. It draws its inspiration from birds – their weightlessness, motion, and rapid changes in the direction of their flight. In the air, by the hair, the motion reveals the strength and fragility of the body.

Bodyrituals

Bodies are ancient devices in rituals. They can create spaces, perform offerings, and be vehicles for internal experiences. While the blood letting and hook rituals are performed on stage, emotions and sounds escape the boundaries of the stage to meet those spectating, making the event a shared experience. The entity of the body ritual will explore the duality and unity of the performers.

Shibari demonstration

When the body gets restricted by the ropes, the mind gets freed, the up becomes down and the above becomes the below and vice versa. There is no floor and no roof, only floating in the in between. Come witness the ropes of the Occult Therapy shape the body of Nes Tiffany in a shibari demonstration.

Suspensio-haastattelu

In this 15-minute discussion between two bodyart professionals, the motives and methods of the work performed by the Occult Therapy are explored. Are rope and hook suspensions just fun things to try or can something more be achieved by manipulation of the body? The Occult Therapy is interviewed by Impossible Bodyart, aka Riina, who also facilitates hook suspensions. The discussion is held in English.

Coralie Roberge

Coralie Roberge is best known as the giant bendy mistress of Quebec city. Many describe her as the contortionist doing “her own things”. She loves making the twisted characters inside her mind come to life and experiment with circus and movement on her fav music… METAL! Her circus dreams reflect how alternative art and metal music has inspired her work. Coralie would love to become a monster in horror films or eventually make collaborations with bands to see how her art can blend with the most powerful genre!

Roberge is beyond thrilled to be part of Tuska this year. It has become possible because of Impossible Bodyart’s generosity and the support of Première Ovation, Quebec city’s foundation supporting emerging artists in all fields.

Coralie will perform in a different character each day.
