Witch Trials

The purpose of the Witch Trials area is to offer visitors a small-scale experience of what the historical witch hunts were like, while also sparking conversation around the topic. Come and feel what it’s like to be accused of witchcraft and hear a verdict that could send you to the stake, the pillory, or the spiked coffin.
The aim is to raise awareness that the phenomenon of witch hunts has not completely vanished. Persecution has partially shifted to digital environments, and public condemnation and injustice—especially through social media—are still very much alive.
The Trials are not only meant to illustrate the dark side of persecution but also to offer an empowering experience. Through this immersive journey, we want to provide a safe and thought-provoking opportunity to explore the witch hunts and their relevance today—while emphasizing empowerment and the freedom that can be found through witchcraft. The experience culminates in a throne where the participant can symbolically reclaim their power as a witch.
The Witch Trials area uses rune coins as currency—familiar from last year’s Carnival of Shadows. With them, you can draw your judgment card. The same rune coins also grant access to activities in Baba Yaga’s hut.
The Academy of Witchcraft, Pagan Fest, Sysimaa, and the Pagan Center are proud to highlight difficult but important themes—ones that may open new perspectives and ignite meaningful conversations.
