VOLUNTEERING IN TUSKA

Tuska’s volunteers, more familiarly known as members of Tuska KVLT, are each year an essential part of making the festival happen.

As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to take part concretely in building the festival, meet like minded people, and collect unforgettable experiences. Volunteering is also a great way to get to know event production and test whether this could be your future career path.

No salary, compensation, or other remuneration is paid for completing volunteer shifts. Volunteer benefits are listed below.

More information about volunteering has been compiled on this page. If you still have questions, you can send them to tuskakvlt@tuska.fi

The Tuska KVLT 2026 volunteer application opens during March.

What does volunteering at Tuska require?

You do not need to be an experienced festival worker to participate, the main criterion is a metal attitude! Other requirements are that you are at least 18 years old and have a Finnish personal identity number. It is enough that you have turned 18 by the time of your first volunteer shift.

What does volunteering at Tuska mean in practice?

  • As a volunteer, you will complete two volunteer shifts of approximately 8 hours each.
  • Shifts may take place during the festival week build up days, during the event days, or during the dismantling days after the festival, depending on when you are available and which tasks you sign up for.
  • All tasks include an orientation. Work is carried out under guidance alongside industry professionals, and team leaders provide additional instructions when needed.
  • Despite careful advance planning, production situations can change quickly and volunteers may need to be reassigned to another team’s tasks as required. A flexible and metal attitude is therefore an advantage.
  • We follow and require adherence to safer space principles from everyone involved in the festival.

What do you get as a Tuska volunteer?

  • A volunteer wristband that allows you to move around the area during your shifts and attend the festival as a visitor when you are not on shift.
  • A Tuska KVLT t-shirt.
  • A warm meal in each of your volunteer shifts.
  • After the festival, a closing party is organized for volunteers, with food, drinks, and time to hang out together.
  • Upon request, we provide a certificate of participation in volunteer work.

How does the application process proceed?

  • Once the application opens, we review applications in order of arrival between March and May. Some teams fill up earlier than others, and we close applications for those teams once enough volunteers have signed up. We update information about filled teams on this page.
  • During the spring, and no later than May, we send accepted applicants information about their assigned volunteer shifts.
  • At the beginning of June, volunteers receive an information package about arrival and other practical arrangements. The package also includes written guidelines, for example on operating safely in the area. Volunteers are also required to follow these guidelines, so please review them carefully in advance.

TUSKA VOLUNTEER TEAMS AND TASKS

Volunteers take part in tasks during the festival week before the event begins, during the festival, and for two days after the festival. Before and after the event, tasks focus on maintaining the area, and during the festival they focus on customer service. Below you will find the different volunteer teams and their task descriptions.

Infrastructure and Decoration Team

The Infrastructure and Decoration Team participates in building and dismantling the festival area. Working in this team requires reasonable physical fitness and an eye for ensuring that the final result looks good for the Tuska weekend. Tasks include, for example:

  • Before the event: building infrastructure and decorations, carrying fences to the correct locations, assembling or moving furniture into place, attaching banners to fences, and installing decorations, signs, and wayfinding.
  • After the event: returning everything to its original state, dismantling and packing infrastructure, fences, furniture, banners, decorations, signs, and wayfinding for storage for future years.

RECYCLING TEAM

The Recycling Team assists in maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of the festival area throughout the entire period when Tuska is being built and held. Tasks include, for example:

  • Before the event: placing waste bins around the area according to instructions.
  • During the event: collecting empty bottles and cans from the area.
  • After the event: cleaning litter from the area.

Wristband Exchange Team

Every Tuska attendee’s festival weekend begins at the Redi wristband exchange point, where we ensure that everyone receives the correct wristband. Volunteer shifts take place already during the festival week for advance wristband exchange, and of course throughout the entire festival weekend. Tasks include, for example:

  • Exchanging wristbands.
  • Guiding customer flow.
  • Organizing and tidying the wristband exchange point.

Serving and Restaurant Team

The festival’s serving and restaurant operations ensure visitors’ stamina and festive spirit. Volunteers assist at the area’s bars, food sales points, and staff catering area. Participation in these tasks does not require an alcohol serving license or hygiene passport. Tasks include, for example:

  • Pouring drinks and restocking drink fridges.
  • Customer service and cashier work.
  • Maintaining cleanliness at workstations.
  • In the staff restaurant, tasks include collecting meal tickets and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area.

Cloakroom Team

The cloakroom takes care of visitors’ belongings and ensures that arrivals to and departures from the festival area run smoothly. A service minded and responsible attitude will take you far in this team. Tasks include, for example:

  • Cloakroom customer service, receiving customers’ items, carefully storing them, and returning them to customers.
  • Cashier work.

Merchandise Team

Official festival clothing and accessories as well as merchandise from artists performing at Tuska are sold at merchandise points. At sales points, volunteers assist staff in running what can at times be a hectic environment. Tasks include, for example:

  • Customer service and product presentation.
  • Cashier work.
  • Sorting and organizing products.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the sales point.

CLUBS AND ASSOCIATIONS

In addition to volunteers, clubs and associations operate at Tuska each year to raise funds to support their activities, and we are happy to collaborate with different organizations. If you are interested, please ask your club’s contact person to get in touch at tuskakvlt@tuska.fi
