Tuska 2025: Last year a wedding, this year funeral planning

For years, Tuska has offered festival-goers the chance to pose inside artist Ilmari Wärri’s coffin artworks, but this summer, the festival delves even deeper into the countdown to life’s end. Amidst the festival atmosphere, you can plan your own funeral with Tuska’s new partner, Funeral Home Mikko Mononen. Representatives from Mononen will be on-site to discuss various wishes and arrangements related to burial and funerals, regardless of religion or belief. Pre-planning often eases the burden on loved ones when the Grim Reaper comes calling.

“If last summer at Tuska we celebrated a wedding, this year the topic of conversation will be funeral planning. The subject may still be taboo for some, but it’s good to have the discussion before life’s final chapter, and why not at a festival, when you’re already spending time with friends?“, reflects Tuska’s Festival Director, Eeka Mäkynen.

At the Mononen booth at Tuska, you can also explore coffin and urn models and have your picture taken in a photo booth. Funeral planning is carried out using a Finnish QSApp application embedded on a website, which works directly in the browser on the festival-goer’s own phone. First, a photo is taken, and then you select elements, decorations, and other details according to your wishes. You can also share your plan online with friends.

“We look forward to interesting discussions with Tuska-goers about their wishes. A funeral home facilitates all arrangements, from invitations to flower orders, and from memorial service music selections to tombstones. Many people, for example, don’t know that there are different options for church funerals”, describe Nicole Nordenswan and Maria Alho, who will be meeting festival-goers at the Funeral Home Mikko Mononen’s booth.
